Hajj Badal - Performing Hajj on Behalf of Someone

For Hajj 2025: There are only 6 spots as of now. 

Hajj Badal is performing Hajj on behalf of someone who is either unable, medically unfit, or deceased.

This is a limited service to the IGP Community, available until Fajr of the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah. We are working with locals on our extended team who are performing Hajj this year with our groups and are graciously offering to perform Hajj for another.

In return for performing the Hajj Badal on behalf of your loved one, we have stepped up to offer them an honorarium as a gift which will be given to them. The fee includes this honorarium, Qurbani, and help for some personal needs they will have during these days. 

After Hajj Badal is completed, and a confirmation and testimony certificate with witnesses will be provided to you.

Also known as “Proxy Hajj,” Hajj Badal refers to the act of performing Hajj on behalf of someone who is unable to perform Hajj themselves. This includes people who are disabled, chronically ill, or deceased. Hajj Badal has been practiced since the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and today the significance and validity of Hajj Badal is supported by many fatawa (legal opinions of Islamic scholars).

The practice of Hajj Badal is supported by a narration of Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه, who said that once a woman from Juhaynah came to meet the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and asked:

“My mother vowed or intended to go for Hajj, but she was unable to go for Hajj before she died. Should I perform Hajj on her behalf?”

To which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ replied: 

“Yes, do Hajj on her behalf. Do you not think that you would pay it off for her if your mother were in debt? Pay off the debt that is owed to Allah, for Allah is more deserving that what is owed to Him should be paid off.”

In simpler terms, if a Muslim who has fulfilled all other obligatory rituals of Islam, and had sufficient resources to perform the obligation of Hajj dies without performing it, in such a case, it becomes an obligation that their family (children) to perform Hajj Badal on their behalf from what remains of the wealth they had left.

Performing Hajj Badal on behalf of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is also an established practice. However, if someone wishes to perform Hajj Badal on behalf of the Prophet ﷺ, they should only do so if they have already fulfilled the obligation on behalf of themselves.
